my resultsÉ

here we go againÉ this
time with the springdale chipsetÉ
my setup...
P4 2.4G HT @ 3298 (275
x12.5), stock intel hs/fan
MSI 865PE_Neo2 (Intel
865PE springdale chipset)
512mb Kingston Hyper-X PC3500
Maxtor 13.0gb HD
Western Digital 160gb Òspecial
editionÓ HD
ATI Radeon 7500 All In
Wonder
Windows XP pro, SP-1 and
all current updatesÉ
1)
HT was enabled
in bios when Windows XP was installed, so XP loaded in SMP mode and recognized
two processorsÉ as did CPUID and Sandra againÉ still pretty cool !!!
2)
no
overvolting, againÉ though the mobo supports voltage mods in bios for cpu, mem,
and AGPÉ as before, I actually lost ground when overvolting, again, probably
because I am running on stock airÉ
3)
275mhz fsb, this
timeÉ on IntelÕs Òquad-pumpedÓ CPU bus, thatÕs a 1100 mhz CPU bus !!! a little
better than the canterwood mobo tested last week (2271 mhz fsb), but thatÕs
probably within the margin of errorÉ
ok, lets get crackinÉ
againÉ
CPUID...

a 37% overclock this timeÉ
still on stock airÉ temps run 42 degC when idle and 65 degC under SETI loadÉ

timings are cl2/2/2/6 at
3298mhzÉ memory bus is at 2/3 multiplierÉ no PAT on the springdale northbridgeÉ
but damn, this Kingston HyperX rocksÉ
some final commentsÉ
1) the P4 HTÕs and the
springdales are definitely giving the canterwoods a runÉ and for a lot less
greenÉ this board is $105 right now at newegg, and the P4-2.4 is $175É a sweet
upgrade if there is oneÉ
2) this MSI board is a
really nice board for about a hundred bucksÉ again, everything worked, right
offÉ and this board is loaded, as wellÉ on board 6.1 audio, on board LAN, 6 x
usb 2.0, SATAÉ no firewire, no dual biosÉ
a 100+ page manualÉ buncha
software utilities, including a utility to download and update bios from
windows, and a windows based overclocking utility... this board also came with
rounded hd and floppy cables (well folded and braided, actually), and a 3 color
6 led flashing northbridge fan, for you case modders out thereÉ
3) IÕll say it againÉ
Kingston HyperX is killer memoryÉ the Kingston kicked the Corsair XMS PC3500Õs
butt again in this rigÉ and it was $15 less than the XMSÉ
4) so whereÕs the PAT???
the memory scores were actually better Òclock for clockÓ on this springdale
boardÉ this needs another lookÉ
IÕll have to say, this
board seems to be a bit better performer than the gigabyte GA-8IK1100
(canterwood) that I built last week, and for considerably less bucksÉ I donÕt
think you can go wrong with this combo... especially if you're on a budget...
